Product Description

Using illustrations drawn from everyday examples, Charles Spurgeon provides uplifting devotions for each day of the year in Evening by Evening. A marvelous orator and compelling writer, Spurgeon weaves the truth of God's Work with his own effective illustrations into inspiring devotions for each day of the year. A Scripture reference and thought-provoking commentary are provided in each devotion to help the reader end each day in God's presence. Throughout this year-long journey, these classic devotions urge readers to reflect on their lives, find comfort in Scripture, and deepen their relationship with God. In one of the daily readings, Spurgeon encourages intercessory prayer because prayer for others is the "sweetest prayer God ever hears." Spurgeon gently persuades the reader to see the goodness and compassion of God, to seek Christ in every area of life, and rest in the promises of a faithful God. Written over a century ago, generations have already cherished this classic collection of daily wisdom, which will endure for generations to come. At the end of a busy day, meditate on the Scripture and allow Spurgeon's inspiring messages to draw you closer to God.

About the Author

Charles H. Spurgeon was saved in 1850 at the age of fifteen. He became known as the boy preacher, after preaching his first sermon in a small cottage in Terersham, Cambridge, England. He pastored at Waterbeach Chapel, New Park Street Chapel, and the Metropolitan Tabernacle in Southwark, England, which was perhaps the first mega–church, holding 4000 people. He wrote many books and brought untold thousands of people to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. He died in 1892, at the age of fifty–eight.

Endorsement

There are few devotionals, which capture the essence of depth and truth, using a single verse a day. As you read, you can see why F.B. Meyer stated, "I went to hear Dr. Surgeon but instead I heard the voice of God". Spurgeon writes from his own experiences and insights received from the hand of God. An example of this, is the March 10th devotional. Spurgeon highlights Job 14:1, which states,"Man...is of few days, and full of trouble. Charles Spurgeon writes, "If we would remember that all the trees of the earth are marked for the woodsman's ax, we would not be so ready to build our nests in them". He goes on to say, "There is a time appointed for weakness and sickness when we will have to glorify God by our suffering and not by earnest activity". Through out this devotional are "precious pearls of wisdom" to ponder, as we grow in the "wisdom and knowledge of God." I highly recommend Evening by Evening, for it's inspirational encouragement as we journey, day to day, through the struggles and troubles of living in a fallen world which groans and is in bondage to corruption and sin.
