Wealth, poverty, and stewardship are leading issues among Christians today. Believers are challenged tot ake a hard look at riches and the responsibilities that accompany them. In view of wide economic disparities between the "haves" and the "have-nots," pressing questions arise: Does God oppose the rich and side with the poor? Is it wrong to accumulate possessions? What obligations do the wealthy have toward the poor? What is the church's role, or the government's?

Dr. John Jefferson Davis is Associate Professor of Theology at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in Hamilton, Massachusetts. He was a Danforth Graduate Fellow and Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Duke University, where he earned the Ph.D. Degree in systematic theology. Dr. David is editor of the book The Necessity of Systematic Theology, and author of Abortion and the Christian, as well as numerous articles and reviews in scholarly publications.
