About the Author
Suffering, failure, sin, illness, loneliness, disappointment. They all come in a seemingly endless variety of shapes and sizes. At thimes there seems to be no way to turn, either backwards or forwards; there is no light at either end of the tunnel. For many people such experiences raise the questions: Why has this happened to me? Has God abandoned me? Can nobody help? Is despair all that is left to me? Large numbers of people today share such experiences and privately ask these very questions. BUT there is an answer. In fact there is a whole series of answers. Deserted By God? begins with the question "Can Anyone Help Me?" and draws on the experience of the psalmists in the Old Testament to help us to begin to understand the ways of God. It shows how others provide us with wisdom which will lead us to the conviction of the closing chapter that we are "Never Deserted."
If you have suffered in this world, this book will be very helpful to you.
If you haven't suffered much, if you live long enough, you will. And in that case, reading this book will help prepare you for what is inevitable in this fallen world we live in.
The book begins with a short introduction as to why it was written and what is hoped to be accomplished. Then it proceeds to work through various Psalms and apply them to various suffering situations. The Psalms give us permission to be real and honest about suffering before God. They give us permission to cry out with questions.
In the end, after reading this book, you will have to conclude that the answer to the question posed by the title is, "No, we've not been deserted by God".
Read it if you are experiencing suffering. Read it if you are not - because you will someday if you live long enough.
