In 1811, Adoniram, on his way to London, found his ship overtaken by French Privateers! How did God intervene to save him from what would likely have been a deadly situation?
Finally in Feb 1812, Adoniram and his new wife, Ann were on their way to India planning to go from there to Burma but all they encountered was hostility! How did they finally make it to Burma? Learning the language was their first mission.
What happened in June, 1824, when the dreaded Spotted Faces came and arrested Adoniram? Before his arrest, Adoniram had
been working on the translation of the New Testament into the Burmese language. How did he plan on keeping it safe? Would it eventually be lost? What would have happened if Adoniram had not answered the call and persevered?!
This story is graphic in places but we, personally had no issue with reading it aloud in family devotions. It shows our children and us, the cost that was paid by the early missionaries and can even lead into conversations of what is happening in the persecuted church today. We cannot and should not sugar coat the cost of being a Christian. Persecution is real!
