Publisher's Description:
Unlike many Bible surveys, this one has been designed to put the individual books of the Bible into a historical framework. This approach is sure to increase the reader's understanding of each biblical book and its significance.
As its subtitle claims, Survey of the Bible is a veritable "treasury of Bible information." It belongs on the bookshelf with such basic reference works as a study Bible, a concordance, and a Bible dictionary.
After brief chapters on how to study and interpret the Bible, Survey of the Bible offers an overview of Bible history (which is also summarized in seven chronological charts), followed by an introduction to the 66 books of Scripture. The latter are divided into 21 groups, and these groups are treated in chronological, not canonical, order.
Illustrating the text are 32 photographs and 18 lists, charts, diagrams, and maps. This comprehensive volume also contains study questions for each chapter, section by section, and it is fully indexed.
William Hendriksen (1900-1982) was an outstanding preacher, professor, and author. He is best known for writing the New Testament Commentary (now being completed by Simon Kistemaker). He held a Th.D. degree from Princeton Theological Seminary, was professor of New Testament at Calvin Theological Seminary for nine years, and served several Christian Reformed churches as pastor.
